For the 5th year in a row, I will be taking part in Walk A Mile in Her Shoes®, a community event supporting The Advocate Program at Crisis Services, which provides initial and ongoing support for those who have been impacted by sexual violence, as well as working to prevent sexual violence. to educate individuals in our neighborhood on how to stand up to sexual violence.,

My mother, Kun Ko, committed suicide on January 16, 2012. Since then, as many of you know, I've been heavily involved with Crisis Services, who has been instrumental in helping me thrive in spite of that tragedy. As a current board member and previous recipient of their services, I can personally attest to the genuine devotion these people have to helping the citizens of Erie County.

Your previous support of my participation in this event has helped raise over $12,000 over 4 years, an amazing number and one which is truly humbling, showing how much you care about both me and the community.

Don't do it for me, or my mother, or anything else. Do it because:

  • 1 out of every 6 American women has been the victim of an attempted or completed rape in her lifetime
  • 17.7 million American women have been victims of attempted or completed rape.
  • About 3% of American men — or 1 in 33 — have experienced an attempted or completed rape in their lifetime.
  • 15% of sexual assault and rape victims are under age 12.
  • Women 18-24 who are enrolled in college are 3 times more likely than women in general to suffer from sexual violence.

$0.05, $5.00, $500 - it doesn't matter. Every cent helps Crisis Services' Advocate Program and is greatly appreciated.
